Symbols of Freedom
All Indians are reminded of the troublesome past of India on the 15th of every August. Our freedom reminds us of the struggle, suffering and sacrifices of our revolutionary heroes. India celebrates her freedom gifted to her by the courageous nationalists on this day. We memorialize the legal freedom of India on the 15th of August. With the unfurling of the National flag at Red Fort in the morning, we start our celebrations. The Prime Minister addresses the nation after flag-hoisting, speaking about the major national issues and future plans for the country’s progress.

The Indian Tricolor
The rectangular Indian flag has three colors in it-saffron, white and green. The flag is made up of three horizontal breadths of these three colors and each color has its own significance. Saffron stands for courage and sacrifice; White stands for purity and Green stands for fertility. The central white colored part has a blue wheel on it consisting of 24 spokes and representing the Dharma Chakra.
Rani Laxmi Bai
Rani Laxmi Bai is the expression of Indian women’s courage and forfeit. She directed her groups to fight against the British in the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. She was among the first women fighters of our country to sacrifice her life for the cause of the nation.
National Emblem of India
The Sarnath pillar of Ashoka is the main inspiration behind the adoption of the National Emblem from it. The National Emblem has got the Lion Capital with four lions standing upon an abacus and facing towards four different directions. Four different animals are carved on the abacus – an elephant, a lion, a bull and a horse. They are separated by four dharmachakras or wheels with 24 spokes. The line “Satya Meva Jayate” meaning “Truth Alone Triumphs” is written below the abacus.
