Janmashtami Celebrations
Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, is celebrated all over the country in a grand way. Celebration of Janmashtami invites fortune and prosperity to everybody’s homes.
In different parts all over the country Janmashtami is celebrated in a different way. Mathura, where Lord Krishna was born, shows the truest colors of this occasion. In Mathura only, Lord Krishna’s parents used to live an imprisoned life until he, as a small boy, defeated Kansa, ascended the throne and rescued them. At Dwarkadhish Temple, Janmashtami is celebrated as Jhulanotsava and Ghatas. On Janmashtami, Vrindavan and Mathura celebrate the entire occasion with much devotion and spirit. There are almost 400 temples of Lord Krishna in Mathura, among which Banke Bihari, Rangaji, Shri Krishna Balram Temple and Gopinath Temple celebrate Janmshtami in a grand scale.
The Jhankis or tableaus are an important part of Janmashtami Celebrations. These depict different stages of childhood in Lord Krishna’s life.
